Klein
From the south of London, Klein develops a body of work at the crossroads of experimental music, contemporary R&B, British rap, dark ambient and, more recently, a more rock-oriented writing. Of Nigerian origin, Klein first drew attention with independent releases like Only and Lagata in 2016, before releasing the EP Tommy in 2017 on Hyperdub. His music assembles fragmented voices, distorted samples, abrasive, noise-like textures, spoken word and often disjointed structures, in a language that borrows as much from club culture as from gospel, theatre and more noise forms. Klein also collaborated with Laurel Halo, appearing on the Dust album in 2017, and his work goes beyond the strict frame of the record, with scene-related projects such as the musical Care, presented at the ICA in London in 2018. His discography subsequently expanded with Lifetime in 2019, Frozen in 2020, Harmattan in 2021, then Cave in the Wind and Star in the Hood in 2022, touched by an angel in 2023, marked in 2024, as well as thirteen sense and sleep with a cane in 2025. Through these publications, Klein develops a very free sonic writing, where the codes of R&B and the experimental are constantly displaced.
