Kekra

A masked rapper from Hauts-de-Seine, Kekra emerged in the mid-2010s on the French rap scene by releasing a series of tracks and mixtapes online organized around the Freebase and Vréel installments. Kekra has developed an aesthetic marked by heavy use of autotune, an often nonchalant flow and repetitive melodies, set over productions close to trap and cloud rap and occasionally touched by electronic or Afro influences. His first projects gradually built an online rap audience before he structured his discography around albums such as Land, released in 2018, and a self-titled record in 2020. Kekra’s lyrics mix street narratives, references to internet culture and travel descriptions — a dimension reflected in music videos shot in various countries. Tracks like «Pas joli» or «Vréalité» in collaboration with Niska helped his music circulate beyond the initial core of listeners. Mostly active on stage in clubs and mid-sized venues, Kekra continues a trajectory in which visual anonymity, serial project work and a coherent sonic aesthetic form the core of his artistic identity.
