Kathryn Joseph

Born in Inverness, Scotland, Kathryn Joseph develops a writing style situated between indie folk, intimate songcraft and alternative, driven by a seemingly fragile voice, a central piano and spare arrangements that leave ample space for tension and silence. Kathryn Joseph emerged in the mid-2010s with Bones You Have Thrown Me and Blood I’ve Spilled, released in 2015 according to reference sources linked to the Scottish prize that distinguished her, then listed in 2016 on certain discographies, a first album that establishes a sober, melodic universe threaded with personal themes. She follows with From When I Wake the Want Is in 2018, where her approach opens to broader textures while preserving this economy of means, then with For You Who Are the Wronged in 2022 and We Were Made Prey in 2025. Alongside her solo albums, Kathryn Joseph has collaborated with RM Hubbert, participated in the Out Lines project with Marcus Mackay and James Graham of The Twilight Sad for the Conflats album in 2017, and co-wrote the music for the stage adaptation of Room the same year with Cora Bissett. Present on the UK folk, indie and alternative scenes, Kathryn Joseph builds a career where restraint, melodic repetitions and a very contained intensity define a signature that is immediately recognizable.
