Seamus Fogarty

Born in Swinford, County Mayo, and later based in London, Seamus Fogarty has developed a folk approach that blends Irish tradition, indie pop and subtle electronic textures. Vocals, banjo, fiddle and guitar intersect with sound collages and restrained rhythms in an aesthetic often likened to folktronica. Fogarty began releasing several EPs in the late 2000s before issuing his debut album God Damn You Mountain in 2012 on Fence Records, partly written in south Kerry. His trajectory has moved between the British independent folk scene and more experimental forms; The Curious Hand appeared in 2017 on Domino. With A Bag Of Eyes (2020) he intensified the integration of electronics into his songs while retaining a strong melodic and narrative sense; the record features Emma Smith, Meilyr Jones and several regular collaborators. Between memories of rural Ireland and London life, Fogarty works on a repertoire attentive to daily life, social observation and arrangements that steer folk into a more contemporary frame.
