Life Of Agony
Born in Brooklyn in late-1980s New York, Life Of Agony took shape in 1989 around Keith Caputo, Alan Robert and Joey Z., and established itself as a leading quartet on the New York heavy scene with a blend of alternative metal, hardcore, grunge and melancholic hard rock. From the start, Life Of Agony stood out for massive riffs, a pronounced sense of emotional tension and a vocal approach that moved away from metal’s most demonstrative conventions. After early demos connected to the Type O Negative circle, the band signed to Roadrunner and released River Runs Red in 1993, followed by Ugly in 1995 and Soul Searching Sun in 1997 — three records that already show an evolution in sound, from the dark metal of their beginnings towards songwriting more open to alternative rock. Separated in the late 1990s and reformed in the early 2000s, Life Of Agony returned with Broken Valley in 2005, then took another break before a revitalized comeback in 2014. Since then the band has released A Place Where There’s No More Pain (2017) and The Sound of Scars (2019). Today the group consists of Keith Caputo, Alan Robert, Joey Z. and Veronica Bellino, and continues to alternate tours, acoustic formats and electric shows within an aesthetic still centered on heaviness, dark choruses and introspective writing.
