Didier Barbelivien
Born in Paris in 1954, Didier Barbelivien first built his career as a writer at the crossroads of French chanson and popular variety music. From the late 1970s he penned or co-penned songs for many performers, including Dalida, Johnny Hallyday, Gilbert Montagné, Mireille Mathieu and Patricia Kaas, showing a marked taste for direct choruses and sentimental narratives. From the 1980s onward he simultaneously developed a career as a singer, within a pop-variety aesthetic firmly rooted in the Francophone tradition, based on simple melodies, duets and narrative songwriting. His name remains associated with several recordings with Félix Gray, notably “À toutes les filles” and “Il faut laisser le temps au temps”, released in 1990. As an author, composer and performer, Didier Barbelivien has for decades divided his activity between writing for other artists, his own repertoire and the stage, in a popular-song register centered on themes of love, storytelling and melodic effectiveness.
