Jens Lekman

Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman, based in Gothenburg, has developed since the early 2000s an intimate pop songwriting style marked by orchestral arrangements, a pronounced taste for sampling and everyday storytelling. Originally from the Angered district near Gothenburg, he first attracted attention with a series of self-produced CDRs and EPs before releasing his debut album, "When I Said I Wanted to Be Your Dog," in 2004, situated between melodic indie pop and guitar-and-vocal ballads. With "Night Falls Over Kortedala" (2007) Lekman refined a broad, narrative chamber-pop approach, then moved toward more stripped-down, introspective forms on "I Know What Love Isn’t" (2012). On "Life Will See You Now" (2017) he introduced more rhythms borrowed from disco, soul and 1980s pop while maintaining a precise focus on lyrics and autobiographical vignettes. Active on European, North American and Australian stages, Jens Lekman alternates studio recordings, concept projects built around commissioned songs and short formats, consolidating a universe where indie pop blends with singer-songwriter craft and sophisticated orchestration.
