I Am The Avalanche
Formed in Brooklyn in 2004 around Vinnie Caruana after the end of The Movielife and a brief stint in Head Automatica, I Am The Avalanche occupies a space between punk rock, pop punk, post-hardcore, emo and melodic hardcore. The New York band established a dense, taut sound on their self-titled debut I Am The Avalanche (2005), then moved toward a more melodic and direct approach on Avalanche United (2011), where the influence of California punk and melodic hardcore becomes more pronounced. Fronted by Caruana’s raspy voice and personal lyrics, much of the band’s character also stems from drummer Brett Romnes, who has been involved in production, and from a multi-guitar lineup that gives the songs both punch and singability. Active on the punk and alternative circuits of the 2000s and 2010s, I Am The Avalanche toured the UK, the US and Australia and played stages such as the Warped Tour, the Bamboozle Festival and Soundwave. Their discography also includes Wolverines (2014), Dive (2020) and The Horror Show (2026), which continue the trajectory between punk energy, melodic choruses and darker rock tension.
