Joss Stone
Born in 1987 in Dover and raised in Devon, England, Joss Stone emerged in the early 2000s on the British soul and R&B scene with an approach strongly rooted in the American tradition. She first drew attention with the covers album The Soul Sessions (2003), recorded with veteran soul musicians, and then asserted her own songwriting on Mind Body & Soul (2004) and Introducing Joss Stone (2007), which incorporated more pop and hip-hop inflections. Her music blends a generous soul voice with organic instrumentation, R&B rhythms and touches of funk and reggae, a blend she further developed on Colour Me Free! (2009) and Water for Your Soul (2015). At the same time she has worked on numerous studio collaborations, regularly teaming with Dave Stewart — with whom she recorded LP1 (2011) and Never Forget My Love (2022) — and participated in the SuperHeavy supergroup project in the early 2010s. Active on many international stages, she alternates between original songs, renditions of soul standards and occasional appearances in film and television.
