Guus Meeuwis

Born in Mariahout, North Brabant, Guus Meeuwis has, since the mid-1990s, developed a career rooted in Dutch-language pop, with songs built around simple melodies, acoustic ballads, moderate tempos and a repertoire closely tied to everyday life. While studying law in Tilburg, Meeuwis first formed Vagant with friends and emerged on the Dutch student circuit before Het is een nacht... (Levensecht) made his name known in 1995. This initial period with a band continued notably with the album Verbazing (1996); thereafter he pursued a solo career under his own name with a steady discography that includes Hemel nr. 7 (2007), Armen open (2011), Hollandse meesters (2014), Geluk (2018), Deel Zoveel (2021) and Uit het hoofd (2023). Strongly associated with Brabant, Meeuwis has also established a lasting presence on the major Dutch stages with the concert series Groots met een zachte G, launched in Eindhoven, which presents music somewhere between pop song, collective choruses and sentimental songwriting without showy effects.
