BLØF
Formed in the early 1990s in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, BLØF developed Dutch‑language sung rock at the crossroads of pop, alternative rock and more acoustic ballads. Around Paskal Jakobsen (vocals, guitar), Peter Slager (bass) and Bas Kennis (keyboards), the band took shape as a quartet, initially with Chris Götte on drums, who was replaced by Norman Bonink after Götte's death in 2001 — an event that deeply marked BLØF's history. After a first self‑produced album, Naakt onder de hemel (1995), the band's visibility grew with Helder (1997) and the single Liefs uit Londen, which established BLØF on the late‑1990s Dutch rock scene. BLØF's music rests on clear melodies, restrained guitars and melodic keyboards, serving narrative and introspective lyrics rooted in everyday life, human relationships and the Zeeland coastal landscape. With Omarm (2003) the band refined a broader sound, then opened its universe to world music influences on Umoja (2006), created from travels and international collaborations. Still active in concert and studio, BLØF continues to focus on the Dutch language while expanding exchanges — for example with Counting Crows on a bilingual version of "Holiday in Spain" or with Belgian singer Geike Arnaert on "Zoutelande" — placing the band in a regular dialogue with Benelux pop.
