Goodnight, Texas
Founded in 2010 between San Francisco, California, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Goodnight, Texas takes its name from the small Texas town located halfway between the two cities where the band’s two principal songwriters, Avi Vinocur and Patrick Dyer Wolf, worked. The project is built around this duo within an expanded band lineup, producing music that sits between Americana and folk rock. Goodnight, Texas released A Long Life of Living in 2012 and Uncle John Farquhar in 2014, followed by the EP An Even Longer Life of Living in 2017 and the album Conductor in 2018. Their discography continued with the EP The Senseless Age in 2019, the live release Live in Seattle, Just Before The Global Pandemic in 2020, How Long Will It Take Them To Die in 2022, and The Lightning and The Old Man Todd and Signals in 2024. Goodnight, Texas’s trajectory developed between the American folk scene and a broader touring circuit; the band also notably performed several times in the town of Goodnight, Texas. In parallel, Avi Vinocur participated in several Metallica performances between 2018 and 2020, including the Helping Hands shows and S&M2, before Goodnight, Texas recorded a cover of “Of Wolf and Man” for The Metallica Blacklist in 2021. The song “The Railroad” was also used in a Coors Banquet campaign in 2018 and in the series Tiger King in 2020.
