The Bones of J.R. Jones

Under the name The Bones of J.R. Jones, American musician Jonathon Linaberry has developed a solo project since the early 2010s that sits at the crossroads of folk, blues and Americana. Raised in the northern part of New York State and based in the Catskills, The Bones of J.R. Jones draws on the imagery of rural blues, frontier music and acoustic ballads, favoring a one-man-band format where voice, guitar, banjo and minimal percussion remain central. The first album, Dark Was the Yearling, was released in 2014, followed by Spirit's Furnace in 2016 and Ones To Keep Close in 2018, which refined a songwriting marked by road motifs, nature and introspection. Intervening EPs extended these themes before Slow Lightning in 2023, recorded between town and country and reflecting a balance between electric energy and more intimate arrangements. On stage, The Bones of J.R. Jones moves between clubs, small venues and festivals in Europe and North America, presenting a repertoire where folk-blues roots blend with a contemporary sensibility.
