Corb Lund

Born in Taber, in southern Alberta, Corb Lund developed his songwriting at the intersection of ranch culture, western traditions and the Canadian independent scene. After beginning his career in the rock band The Smalls, active in Edmonton in the 1990s, Lund turned to country and formed the Corb Lund Band, later adding the backing group The Hurtin’ Albertans. With them he forged a blend of traditional country, alt‑country and North American folk. Early albums such as Modern Pain (1995) and Unforgiving Mistress (1999) established him in a style strongly shaped by rural landscapes, continued with Five Dollar Bill (2002) and Hair in My Eyes Like a Highland Steer (2005), while Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier! (2007) and Losin’ Lately Gambler (2009) delved more into historical narratives and itinerant life. He followed with Cabin Fever (2012), Counterfeit Blues (2014), Things That Can’t Be Undone (2015), Agricultural Tragic (2020) and El Viejo (2024), moving between stripped‑down ballads, uptempo tracks and chronicles of agricultural life, which he presents on country, folk and roots stages across Canada, the United States and Europe, most often with a full band.
