Hervé Vilard

Born in Paris in 1946, Hervé Vilard fits into the French chanson and variété tradition, combining romantic ballads with popular choruses. Spotted in the mid-1960s, he became known in 1965 with “Capri c’est fini,” a song that placed him within the yé-yé generation while quickly steering him toward a more melodic, sentimental repertoire. He followed with numerous releases in the 1960s and 1970s and built a significant international presence, especially in Spain and Latin America, where he recorded Spanish versions of his songs and performed regularly. Over the decades his interpretation evolved toward more orchestrated arrangements focused on voice and storytelling, through collaborations with various francophone writers, composers and arrangers. Long active on tours, in cabarets and in major venues in France and abroad, he developed a repertoire that balances intimate songs and popier refrains, and extended his career by writing autobiographical accounts about his childhood in institutions and his path as an artist.
