Daniel Guichard
Born in Paris in 1948, Daniel Guichard belongs to the French chanson and variety tradition, marked by plainspoken lyrics, a deep voice and a strong popular grounding from his beginnings in the Les Halles district. After leaving high school, Guichard worked while singing in the evenings at the cabarets of Montmartre and Saint‑Germain‑des‑Prés, where he performed his early songs and pieces by Aristide Bruant. His discography begins with Le Paname de mes dix ans (1969), and his career grew in the early 1970s with La Tendresse (1973), Faut pas pleurer comme ça and Mon vieux (1974) — ballads and sentimental repertoire songs that established his style. Guichard then built a steady career of albums, tours and appearances at the Olympia, notably Je t’aime tu vois (1976), Je viens pas te parler d’amour (1979) and Le Gitan (1983). His work also includes records dedicated to Édith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier and Charles Trenet, and from the mid‑1970s he worked as a producer with his label Kuklos. Later he released Notre Histoire in 2012, extending a career rooted in chanson réaliste, orchestrated variety and stage repertoire.
