ERA

Behind ERA is the French musician Éric Lévi, who began in rock with Shakin’ Street before turning in the early 1990s to film music in France, notably for Jean‑Marie Poiré. It was in that context that ERA took shape, developing a writing style that blends expansive choirs, an invented language with sounds reminiscent of medieval Latin, rock guitars, orchestral arrangements and electronic textures. From the debut Era in 1996 and Era II in 2000, the project established a universe at the crossroads of new age, symphonic pop and an aesthetic inspired by the sacred and the medieval. The Mass (2003) extended this formula with a stronger focus on choral work, while Reborn (2008) broadened the palette with electronic and Oriental influences. With Classics (2009) and Classics II (2010), ERA reinterpreted classical repertoire themes within its own sonic grammar. The project returned with The 7th Sword (2017) and The Live Experience (2022). Led by Éric Lévi and with performers gathered per project, ERA has occupied since the 1990s a singular space between ambient music, orchestral pop and choral fresco.
