Gregorian
Gregorian is a vocal project founded in Germany in the early 1990s and developed by producer Frank Peterson around an ensemble of classically trained male singers. Initially linked to a pop-oriented project with the album "Sadisfaction" (1991), Gregorian took its current form at the end of the decade by building a repertoire of rock and pop covers arranged in the aesthetic of Gregorian chant. The first volume, "Masters of Chant", was released in 1999, followed by "Masters of Chant Chapter II" in 2001 and "The Dark Side" in 2004, which positioned the group between reworked sacred music, atmospheric pop and New Age influences. Gregorian's arrangements favor choral harmonies, moderate tempos and an alternation of Latin and English texts, sometimes supported by a discreet rhythm section and film-like orchestrations. On stage, Gregorian presents this repertoire as themed concerts in churches, theaters and concert halls across Europe and beyond, with a lineup of singers that changes over tours but remains under the supervision of Frank Peterson.
