Andrea Bocelli
Born in 1958 in Lajatico, Tuscany, Andrea Bocelli grew up in a rural setting where music quickly took on a central role. Affected by congenital glaucoma, he lost his sight at the age of 12 but went on to study law at the University of Pisa while singing in piano bars. Bocelli’s path shifted in the early 1990s when he recorded a demo of "Miserere" for Zucchero; noticed by Luciano Pavarotti, it led him to perform on major Italian stages. In 1994, he won the Newcomer section of the Sanremo Music Festival with "Il mare calmo della sera," which also became the title of his debut album released the same year, followed by "Bocelli" in 1995. His international breakthrough came with "Romanza" (1997) and the ballad "Con te partirò," which firmly established his position between the operatic repertoire and popular song. His style combines operatic tenor technique, accessible melodies, and a marked taste for romantic ballads, within an aesthetic often described as classical crossover. Bocelli then recorded programs more clearly oriented toward sacred and classical repertoire with "Sacred Arias" (1999), and subsequently alternated song albums with thematic projects such as "Cieli di Toscana" (2001), "Amore" (2006), "Passione" (2013), "Cinema" (2015), "Si" (2018), and "Believe" (2020), while regularly appearing in concerts blending opera arias, Italian standards, and duets with artists from pop and film music.
