Hamilton Leithauser

Born in Washington, D.C., Hamilton Leithauser first established himself on the New York rock scene as the singer of The Walkmen, a band formed in 2000 and put on hiatus in 2013, whose trajectory intersected with the early‑2000s American indie‑rock revival. His rough, taut voice, instantly identifiable, underpins songwriting that blends indie rock, orchestrated pop, folk and soul references while keeping to a very direct song format. As a solo artist Leithauser opened a different frame with Black Hours in 2014, a debut album built around broader arrangements, and extended that evolution with the duo project Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam on I Had a Dream That You Were Mine in 2016, a record of sunnier tone featuring the contribution of musician‑producer Rostam Batmanglij. He continued in this vein with The Loves of Your Life in 2020, situated between chamber rock, American pop and intimate storytelling. Across these stages he maintains a strong melodic sensibility, a physical mode of delivery and a distinctive position between New York rock heritage and more classical songwriting.
