Gold
Formed in Toulouse in the south of France in the mid‑1970s, the band Gold gradually established itself on the French pop scene with a blend of variété, melodic pop rock and synth sounds characteristic of the 1980s. Built around a core of Toulouse musicians, Gold presented itself as a guitar‑and‑keyboard band propelled by catchy choruses and French‑language lyrics centered on storytelling, travel and urban everyday life. The group gained national recognition in the mid‑1980s thanks to a string of singles aired on radio and television — including “Plus près des étoiles”, “Capitaine abandonné”, “Ville de lumière” and “Laissez‑nous chanter” — which secured Gold’s place in francophone pop. After this period of heavy exposure the band’s output slowed and it went through several lineup changes, while remaining associated with themed tours and nostalgia shows devoted to chanson and 1980s pop in France.
