Julie Pietri
Born in Douera, in French Algeria, Julie Pietri moved to France in the early 1960s and emerged in the late 1970s on the French pop/variety scene. Initially recording under the single name Julie, she developed a repertoire that sat between popular song, disco-pop and synth-driven variety, marked by direct melodic songwriting and danceable arrangements. Her breakthrough came with “Magdalena” in 1979, followed by a series of songs broadcast on 1980s variety shows, including “Et c’est comme si”, the duet “Amoureux fous” with Herbert Léonard in 1983, and “Ève lève-toi” in 1986, which accompanied a shift toward more electronic pop. Julie Pietri was thus part of a French scene where chanson blended with the codes of disco and later synth-pop, while retaining a format accessible to the general public. Over the decades she has continued to work with new recordings, television appearances and live performances, notably on tours devoted to the repertoire of the 1980s, building a long-lasting career spanning ballads, dance pop and French variety.
