Drugdealer
Led by American musician Michael Collins, Drugdealer operates between Los Angeles and the U.S. East Coast in a register where 1970s soft rock, psychedelic pop and highly melodic songwriting intersect. After releasing music under other aliases, Collins launched Drugdealer in the mid‑2010s and gathered around him a fluctuating group that fuels both studio work and live performances. Drugdealer’s debut album, “The End of Comedy” (2016), established an aesthetic of slow to mid‑tempo songs marked by expansive vocal harmonies and light brass arrangements, with occasional contributions from Weyes Blood and Ariel Pink. “Raw Honey” (2019) moves further into California‑tinged rock and sophisticated pop, while “Hiding in Plain Sight” (2022) accentuates soul and yacht‑rock influences within tighter song structures. On stage, Drugdealer presents as a collective centered on Collins’ voice and keyboards, favoring an organic group dynamic and a song‑forward approach that situates the project within an indie landscape where reinterpretations of classic pop forms meet contemporary sensibilities.
