Donae'o
Born in London under the name Ian Greenidge, Donae’o has since the late 1990s been part of the British urban music landscape, at the crossroads of UK funky, garage, grime, hip-hop, R&B and soul. Hailing from northwest London and of Ghanaian and Guyanese descent, Donae’o develops a highly identifiable vocal style, made up of sung choruses, rap-like phrasing, and club rhythms anchored in London scenes. After early singles in the early 2000s, he moves between garage, bass music and British rap, both solo and alongside artists such as Wiley, Lethal Bizzle, The Streets, Jme or Dizzee Rascal. His discography includes the albums Party Hard (2009) and Indigo Child (2011), which show a writing oriented toward both dance and more melodic formats. Donae’o also remains active as a guest and producer, with appearances on tracks by Shy FX, Breakage, or Foreign Beggars. In 2016 he contributed to and produced Giggs' track Lock Doh, then continued with the Sixteen mixtape in 2017. Over the years, Donae’o has maintained this link between club energy, garage heritage, and a sense of the hook characteristic of a portion of London’s music.
