Big Narstie
Born in London and long linked to Brixton in the south of the British capital, Big Narstie, real name Tyrone Lindo, established himself from the 2000s in the English grime scene, first within the N Double A crew and then as a solo artist. His approach blends grime, British hip-hop and a more offbeat register that has also fed his presence in grime comedy, without dissociating humor from a very clear anchoring in the codes of London rap. Over the years, Big Narstie has released several mixtapes such as I’m Betta Than U Vol. 1 in 2005, Pain Is Love and Pain Overload in 2012, then EPs such as Pain in 2013, Don’t Fuck Up the Base in 2013, Hello High with True Tiger in 2013 and Base Society in 2016, before the album BDL Bipolar in 2018. His writing alternates abrupt formulas, references to pop culture and a sense of spoken word, on productions that navigate between bass music, grime rhythms and more open formats. Big Narstie has also multiplied collaborations, notably with Craig David on When the Bassline Drops in 2015, Enter Shikari on Supercharge in 2017 and Robbie Williams the same year. Alongside music, Big Narstie has developed a strong on-screen visibility with the online series Uncle Pain and then The Big Narstie Show, extending a trajectory where the stage, the media and grime culture remain closely linked.
