Fatoumata Diawara
Fatoumata Diawara is a singer, songwriter, composer and actress, born in Ivory Coast to Malian parents. She is a major figure in modern afro-pop, drawing on the wassoulou tradition, Mandingue blues, soul and electronic music. Her powerful, clear voice carries socially engaged lyrics about the condition of women, exile, identity and hope — always delivered with grace and determination. She made her cinematic breakthrough in Abderrahmane Sissako’s Timbuktu and also stands out for collaborations with Oumou Sangaré, Damon Albarn, Disclosure, Gorillaz and Matthieu Chedid. Between tradition and the future, her projects blend hypnotic grooves, generous melodies and direct messages, making her an essential artist, magnetic both on record and on stage.
