Electric Wizard
Born in Dorset, in the south of England, around guitarist and singer Jus Oborn, Electric Wizard took its definitive form in 1993 after several underground incarnations, including Lord of Putrefaction, Thy Grief Eternal and Eternal. Electric Wizard developed a very slow, massive form of doom metal, fed by stoner metal, sludge and dark psychedelia, featuring thick riffs, buried vocals and imagery marked by occultism, horror cinema and cannabis culture. The debut album, Electric Wizard, was released in 1995; Come My Fanatics… (1997) and Dopethrone (2000) established a more abrasive, hallucinatory aesthetic, continued by Let Us Prey (2002). After several founding members left in 2003, Electric Wizard reconfigured around Jus Oborn and guitarist Liz Buckingham, who became a central part of the songwriting on We Live (2004), Witchcult Today (2007), Black Masses (2010), Time to Die (2014) and Wizard Bloody Wizard (2017). Having evolved from the original trio to a more fluid lineup and now structured as a quartet, Electric Wizard remains closely associated with the international doom and stoner scenes, both on tour and on the bills of specialist festivals.
