Acid King

Formed in San Francisco in 1993 around guitarist and vocalist Lori S. and drummer Joey Osbourne, Acid King sits at the crossroads of stoner rock, stoner metal and doom metal, with a slow, heavy and psychedelic sound. From its early days the band developed an approach based on thick riffs, stretched tempos, and a vocal often kept in the background, which reinforces the hypnotic character of its songs. After a first self-titled EP in 1994, Acid King released Zoroaster in 1995, then Down with the Crown in 1997 and Busse Woods in 1999, a record often associated with the consolidation of its sonic identity. The lineup has undergone several bassists changes over the years, while Lori S. and Joey Osbourne remain the stable core. After Free... in 2001, released in collaboration with Mystick Krewe of Clearlight, Acid King returned with III in 2005, then resumed its discography with Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere in 2015 and Beyond Vision in 2023. Between foggy doom, repetitive heaviness and the heritage of psych rock, Acid King has traversed American heavy and underground scenes with a cohesive aesthetic, marked by long compositions, constant tension, and a singular place accorded to Lori S.'s voice.
