Turbo

Formed in Poznań in 1980 around guitarist Wojciech Hoffmann, Turbo initially established itself in a nerve-wracking hard rock before moving toward a more defined heavy metal, then toward faster forms where speed metal, thrash metal and, at times, a more progressive writing style cross paths. The first recordings appeared in the early 1980s, and the band secured a lasting place on the Polish metal scene with Dorosłe dzieci in 1983, followed by Smak ciszy in 1985. The sharpest turn came with Kawaleria szatana in 1987, then Ostatni wojownik, released in English under the title Last Warrior in 1988 and in Polish in 1989, where Turbo clearly hardened its sound with tighter riffs and a more frontal tempo. The late 1980s and early 1990s were marked by several lineup changes, the album Epidemic in 1989, its Polish version Epidemie in 1990, then Dead End in 1990 and One Way in 1992. Reactivated several times from the mid-1990s, Turbo then returned with Awatar in 2001, Tożsamość in 2004, Strażnik światła in 2009, Piąty żywioł in 2013 and Blizny in 2025. Always led by Hoffmann, Turbo continues to move between classic heavy metal and melodic thrash, with regular live activity in Poland.
