KSU

Formed in 1977 in Ustrzyki Dolne in southeastern Poland, KSU belongs to the first wave of Polish punk before gradually broadening its language toward a more melodic rock, occasionally touched by folk and acoustic elements. Originating far from major cultural centers, KSU initially developed a raw, fast, and confrontational sound influenced by British punk, then shaped its trajectory around singer-guitarist Eugeniusz “Siczka” Olejarczyk, a steady presence in a band marked by numerous lineup changes. Spotted around 1980 on the Polish new wave scene, KSU performed at events such as the Przegląd Zespołów Rockowych Nowej Fali in Kołobrzeg (1980) and at venues like Riviera-Remont in Warsaw and Stodoła. Their discography traces this evolution between punk urgency, rock songwriting, and a strong attachment to the Bieszczady region, including Pod Prąd (1989), Ustrzyki (1991), Moje Bieszczady (1993), Ludzie bez twarzy (2002), Nasze słowa (2005), XXX-lecie, Akustycznie (2008), Dwa narody (2014), Akustycznie - Epilog (2021) and 44 (2023). KSU retains a direct, socially minded and often ironic aesthetic rooted in the history of Polish punk.
