Dingo
Formed in Pori, Finland, in the early 1980s around singer Pertti Neumann, Dingo initially sat at the crossroads of Suomirock and pop rock, where keyboards, immediate melodies, and a sensibility of new romantic play a central role. The band took off with Nimeni on Dingo in 1984, followed by Kerjäläisten valtakunta in 1985, two albums that permanently established its identity, between tightly written choruses, romantic tension, and an anchoring in the Finnish rock of the era. With Pyhä klaani in 1986, Dingo evolved this register toward darker and tenser colors. After a first breakup in the same year, Dingo returned several times, notably in the 1990s with Via Finlandia in 1994, then in the 2000s with Purppuraa in 2005 and Humisevan harjun paluu in 2008, a period when the sound became more guitar-driven and opened more to accents of rock variety. Dingo’s trajectory is also marked by numerous lineup changes, Neumann remaining the through-line of the project. The band has on stage reunited several of its historic members across periods, before continuing its activity with a newer lineup including notably Jonttu Virta, Leena Peisa, Saska Ketonen and, since 2024, Tom Eklund. Dingo thus continues to move between the heritage of the 1980s and a live reinterpretation of its repertoire.
