Miljoonasade
Formed in Jyväskylä, Finland, Miljoonasade has belonged to the suomirock lineage since 1986, performing rock sung in Finnish that blends pop melodies, direct guitars and lyrics attentive to everyday life, memory and urban or intimate landscapes. The band’s core is built around Heikki Salo on vocals and lyrics, together with Matti Nurro, Ari Laaksonen and Jarmo Hovi; Olli Heikkinen played keyboards for many years before being replaced by Tomi Aholainen in 2014. From the late 1980s Miljoonasade released a succession of albums, notably Pesuhuoneesta keittiöön (1987), Laukauksia viulukotelossa (1988), Veitsen valossa (1989) and Lelukaupan häät (1992), developing a tight group sound between melodic rock, Finnish new wave and more narrative ballads. Their trajectory continued in the 1990s with Hevonen ja Madonna (1993), Vieraalla maalla (1994), Käärmeenkantaja (1994) and Poikapainia ja digitaalidaameja (1996), followed by Siskon luo San Diegoon (2000). After an announced hiatus in 2010, Miljoonasade returned to the stage in 2014 and resumed recording with Sähköinen Rouva Maa (2016), Karkumorsian (2019), the symphonic project Askeleet kahdelle – Pas de deux with Jyväskylä Sinfonia (2021) and Ohita intro (2023). Miljoonasade remains associated with Finland’s Finnish-language scene, performing in venues, at festivals and on national tours.
