DJ Deep

Originally from Paris, DJ and producer DJ Deep, born Cyril Étienne des Rosaies, has been part of the French house and techno scene since the early 1990s, with a pronounced interest in the legacies of Chicago and Detroit. After beginning his career as a selector on specialist radio stations and in Parisian clubs, he refined a style centered on deep house—often minimal in texture but attentive to rhythmic detail and dark atmospheres. From the mid-2000s he developed the label Deeply Rooted (initially Deeply Rooted House), releasing his own productions as well as work by producers aligned with his aesthetic. His studio output alternates between club-oriented maxi singles and more experimental projects, notably through long-running collaborations with Roman Poncet under various collective aliases. The 2014 mixed compilation “Kern Vol. 3” for Tresor represents an important discographic milestone and illustrates an approach to mixing that links classics with contemporary tracks from techno, raw house and related currents. Regularly appearing in clubs and at festivals across Europe and beyond, he continues to pursue pared-back sonic textures, repetitive grooves and long transitions, with a sustained attention to the history of American electronic music and its current extensions.
