Ebril
Under the name Ebril, Iraqi-Canadian musician Huda Al Hamami has been developing from Hamilton, Ontario, a world where spare folk, ambient and touches of shoegaze intersect in intimate songwriting. Born into an Iraqi family and having spent part of her childhood in Amman, Jordan, Ebril weaves migration experiences, memories of the Middle East and North American daily life into her songs. After several years working on her music at home, she released her debut album In Copula in 2025, conceived as a sonic journey that follows the passage from night to morning. The record combines guitar-and-voice songs, atmospheric beds and subtly noisy textures, punctuated by field recordings captured from her room in Hamilton and in the streets of Amman. This work on the soundscape places Ebril at the border between experimental folk songwriting and ambient music, with a marked attention to silences and slow dynamics. Her trajectory shifted in the summer of 2025 when the opening track, 'Stranger in You', circulated widely on TikTok and expanded the audience for this first project. In her lyrics, Huda Al Hamami addresses uprooting, social inequalities and environmental crises, linked to her commitment to better representation of Middle Eastern artists in pop and independent music. Between local stages in Ontario, online distribution and a community gathered around her digital releases, Ebril pursues an approach in which self-production and attention to sonic detail structure the core of her work.
