sundots
Sundots took shape in Connecticut around Drew Collins, a longtime musician active in experimental projects, who in 2019 opened a new chapter more directly focused on songwriting with the demo 'Room'. Initially conceived as an extension of songs crafted in solitude, Sundots also drew on the local DIY scene to move into live performance, with contributions from Jake Fucci, Austin Traver and Nick Restivo. Sundots' music moves between freak folk, ambient, slowcore and indie rock, often in a slow, hushed and melodic mode where subtle textures matter as much as the choruses. Drew Collins's writing is very direct, sometimes close to a stream-of-consciousness, addressing themes of youth, attachment, personal change and a kind of imaginative projection. After several recordings released under the name, Sundots further refines this approach on Honeyspot, released in 2024, an album where the songs retain their intimate character while gaining in group cohesion.
