M.A.O. Cormontreuil

On the outskirts of Reims, the trio M.A.O. Cormontreuil brings together Marianne Mérillon and Anthonin Ternant, formerly of Black Bones and The Bewitched Hands, and Odilon Horman, who has been part of Chester Remington and Black Bones. Under a name that references both computer‑aided music (M.A.O.) and the town of Cormontreuil, M.A.O. Cormontreuil produces electronic pop rooted in indie‑house structures, combining accessible melodies, danceable tempos and synthetic textures. The group's tracks are released primarily digitally and occupy a space between club music and chanson, where vocals and choruses remain prominent despite a strong rhythmic backbone. On stage, M.A.O. Cormontreuil conceives its concerts as a continuous flow — akin to a mixtape played live — stringing songs together with electro transitions and a tempo progression that moves from a slow groove to higher energy. The visual universe and communications are organized around a fictional agency set in imaginary offices, a device that evokes both a DIY approach to production and the early days of computer‑assisted music around the 2000s, giving graphic coherence to the group's various appearances.
