Eve La Marka
Born into a family of musicians, Eve La Marka grew up in an environment where jazz was central before turning in her teens to sounds inspired by Caribbean music. Active on the francophone rap scene, she is developing a project that blends rap, urban pop and rhythms close to dancehall, with particular attention to melodic lines. Her lyrics range from braggadocio to more introspective pieces, addressing in particular the issues of a young mother seeking to assert her choices and ambitions. Her voice alternates between composed passages and more sensual registers, playing with shifts in intensity within a single track. She composes part of her instrumentals herself, which allows her to coherently articulate writing, toplines and rhythmic construction. Her songs often rely on choruses built around repeated vocal motifs that quickly establish a recognisable sonic identity. Within this framework, Eve La Marka continues to explore melodic rap nourished by both Caribbean references and the contemporary codes of urban pop.
