Daudi Matsiko
Based in Nottingham, Daudi Matsiko charts a path as a British‑Ugandan songwriter at the intersection of contemporary folk, acoustic songwriting and subtle arrangements that gradually broaden the song‑and‑guitar framework. His music rests on precise fingerpicking, a gentle, sometimes almost restrained voice, and introspective lyrics that favour confession and close observation. Early releases include the EPs A Brief Introduction to Failure and The Lingering Effects of Disconnection, which already reveal a restrained, melancholic and detailed aesthetic informed as much by folk tradition as by a more current sensitivity to rhythm and texture. Over the years Matsiko has also appeared on stages adjacent to jazz and independent music, touring with Keaton Henson, GoGo Penguin and Portico Quartet, and his participation in the Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal in 2016 marks another milestone. In 2023 he released the tracks oMo and Fool Me As Many Times As You Like, continuing an intimate, pared‑back songwriting attentive to nuance and the tension between vocal fragility and emotional density.
