Barenaked Ladies
Formed in 1988 in Scarborough, a suburb of Toronto, Canada, Barenaked Ladies craft an alternative and pop-rock sound infused with folk, humor, and wordy lyrics, driven by distinctive vocal harmonies. The band initially centered on Steven Page and Ed Robertson, soon joined by Jim Creeggan, Andy Creeggan, and then Tyler Stewart, followed by the arrival of Kevin Hearn; Steven Page departed in 2009, after which Barenaked Ladies carried on as a quartet. Noticed in the early 1990s thanks to a series of independent cassettes, the group broke through in Canada with the album Gordon in 1992, then followed with Maybe You Should Drive (1994), Born on a Pirate Ship (1996), and the live album Rock Spectacle (1996), before reaching a wider audience with Stunt (1998) and Maroon (2000). Thereafter, Barenaked Ladies alternated studio releases and North American tours with Everything to Everyone (2003), Barenaked Ladies Are Me (2006), Barenaked Ladies Are Men (2007), All in Good Time (2010), Grinning Streak (2013), Silverball (2015), Fake Nudes (2017), and finally Detour de Force (2021), while notably providing the theme song for the television series The Big Bang Theory.
