J Majik

Born in London under the name Jamie Spratling, J Majik established himself in the mid-1990s in the British drum and bass scene, after very young beginnings in the rave environment and early productions published under other names such as Dexxtrous or Innervisions. His approach initially fused a dark and tense drum and bass, designed for the club, then evolved toward more melodic and fluid forms, with a pronounced focus on textures, basses and vocals. Founder of the Infrared label, J Majik contributed to the genre’s rise with tracks such as “Your Sound”, “Lush Life” or “Arabian Nights”, before the release of the Slow Motion album in 1997. In the early 2000s, J Majik broadened his repertoire further between liquid drum and bass, breakbeat and more open crossovers with house, notably on “Love Is Not a Game” with Kathy Brown. His career also includes numerous remixes and a notable appearance in a mixed format with Fabriclive. 13 in 2004. Between 2003 and 2013, J Majik regularly worked with Wickaman, a duo from which the albums Crazy World (2007) and Out of Sight (2013) originate. Returning to solo production in the late 2010s, J Majik subsequently released Full Circle in 2019 and Always Be in 2020.
