Doc Scott
Born in Coventry, England in 1971 as Scott McIlroy, Doc Scott established himself by the late 1980s on the British rave scene. Initially a DJ at venues and parties such as Amnesia House and The Eclipse, he joined the Metalheadz nights at the Blue Note in London in the mid-1990s. Recording under the aliases Doc Scott and Nasty Habits, he developed a sound situated between jungle and drum and bass, marked by tight rhythms, a prominent use of bass and an often dark, stripped-down approach. Doc Scott released his first track, “NHS”, on the Absolute 2 label in 1991, then moved on to Reinforced Records and Metalheadz with tracks like “Here Comes The Drumz”, “Dark Angel”, “Deranged”, “VIP Drumz”, “Unofficial Ghost” and “Tokyo Dawn”, which trace the genre’s evolution in the early 1990s. In 1996 he released “Shadow Boxing” as Nasty Habits on his own label, 31 Records, a vehicle that would later underpin much of his work as a producer and curator. Between 2014 and 2018 Doc Scott also hosted the radio show Future Beats on Origin FM.
