Dillinja
Born in the Brixton area of London, Dillinja developed from the early 1990s a defining language within jungle and later British drum and bass. Producer and DJ active since 1991, Karl Nicholas Francis releases under his own name and various aliases, including Capone, Cybotron, Trinity and Basic Influence, on labels such as Metalheadz, V Recordings, Hard Leaders and Chronic. The early Dillinja maxi singles, and tracks like "The Angels Fell", "Rainforest" and "Twist Em Out", reveal a style built on taut breakbeats, very deep basslines and a marked sense of rhythmic tension, with touches of dub, reggae and soul. Over the years Dillinja evolved this sound toward a more massive and direct drum and bass, conceived for both the club and large sound systems. In 2001 Dillinja founded Valve Recordings and the Valve Sound System with long‑time partner Lemon D, a project that played at Fabric in London before touring the UK and internationally. His discography notably includes the album "Cybotron", released in 2001 under the Cybotron alias, and "Big Bad Bass", a duo album with Lemon D released in 2002.
