Chic
Chic is an American disco‑funk band formed in 1976 by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, renowned for its precise groove, iconic bass lines and a production style that shaped popular music in the 1970s and 1980s. The group made an immediate impact with a string of albums that became essential, notably C'est Chic (1978) featuring the classics “Le Freak” and “I Want Your Love,” and Risqué (1979), which includes the iconic “Good Times,” a foundational track for hip‑hop and modern dance. Their first album, Chic (1977), established the basis for an elegant, minimalist sound, while Real People (1980) and Take It Off (1981) extended their post‑disco turn. Masters of arrangement, Rodgers and Edwards also left their mark as producers for Sister Sledge, Diana Ross and Madonna, while keeping Chic among the most influential groups in contemporary soul, disco and funk.
