KC & The Sunshine Band
In early-1970s Miami, KC & The Sunshine Band took shape around keyboardist and singer Harry Wayne Casey, known as KC, and bassist-producer Richard Finch, initially under the TK Records banner before becoming a fully fledged live act. The group forged a sound rooted in disco and funk, with a prominent horn section, repetitive bass lines, choral-style backing vocals, and dance-oriented song structures at the crossroads of R&B, soul, and pop. Their early albums—"Do It Good" (1974), "KC and the Sunshine Band" (1975), and "Part 3" (1976)—cemented this aesthetic through a run of singles that left a lasting mark on the disco era. By the late 1970s, the band shifted toward a more pop- and R&B-leaning direction, notably with the 1979 ballad "Please Don’t Go." After a slowdown in the 1980s, KC & The Sunshine Band gradually returned to the stage in the early 1990s, embraced the disco revival, and issued new releases such as "Oh Yeah!" (1993), "Yummy" (2007), and "Feeling You! The 60s" (2015), while keeping their live repertoire focused on material from the 1970s and 1980s.
