Horse Lords

Emerging from Baltimore’s experimental scene in Maryland, Horse Lords comprises Andrew Bernstein, Max Eilbacher, Owen Gardner and Sam Haberman. The quartet blends experimental rock, post‑rock, krautrock, minimalism, jazz and math rock. Active since the early 2010s, Horse Lords develops music founded on rhythmic cycles, repetitive motifs, interlocking offsets between instruments and a tuning approach inspired by just intonation, with echoes of African music, post‑punk and some Appalachian traditions. After a self‑titled debut in 2012 the band released Hidden Cities in 2014 and Interventions in 2016, an album that honed a tighter writing style between hypnotic pulse, saxophone and intertwined guitar and bass. Their trajectory continued with The Common Task in 2020 and Comradely Objects in 2022, where repetitive structures remain central but gain flexibility and clarity. Horse Lords have shared bills with Matmos, Guerilla Toss and Guardian Alien and performed at stages such as Hopscotch Music Festival and North by Northeast, situating their path between avant‑garde rock, repetitive composition and live performance.
