Hatis Noit

Borrowing a name from Japanese folklore, Hatis Noit develops a vocal practice that sits between experimentation, ambient music and neo‑classical influences. Born in Shiretoko on the island of Hokkaidō, Japan, she is self‑taught, drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese singing as well as Gregorian chant, Bulgarian polyphonies and Western opera. After moving to London, she joined the Erased Tapes label with the EP "Illogical Dance" in 2018, following her first self‑released album "Universal Quiet" which appeared in Japan in 2014, and further explored solo‑voice research with the album "Aura" in 2022. Hatis Noit's compositions are built on layered vocal lines, work with breath, screams or whispers, creating pieces in which the boundary between melody, sonic texture and ritual is deliberately blurred. On stage she performs in contexts ranging from experimental music to contemporary and improvised music programmes, occasionally collaborating with ensembles or musicians from those spheres.
