Marina Herlop

Born in Catalonia and based in Barcelona, Marina Herlop develops music at the crossroads of contemporary piano, vocal composition, and experimental electronics. Trained in classical music after studies at the Badalona Conservatory, Marina Herlop first released Nanook in 2016, followed by Babasha in 2018, two albums still very centered on solo piano, where rhythmic deviations and less academic forms already appear. With Pripyat in 2022, released by PAN, her writing takes a clearly more electronic turn: the piano remains present but blends with fragmented percussion, overlapping voices, and work on phonetic syllables inspired notably by Carnatic music. Nekkuja, released in 2023, extends this research in a broader format, where repetitive motifs, harmonic tensions, and explorations of vocal polyphony occupy a central place. On stage, Marina Herlop presents these pieces in a collective setup, in connection with the circuits of experimental, electronic, and sound art festivals in Europe.
