1914

Formed in 2014 in Lviv, 1914 develops a conceptual extreme metal project entirely devoted to World War I, blending blackened death metal, crushing doom and documented historical narratives. Led by vocalist Dmitry “Historiographer” Kumar, the band forges a distinct sonic and narrative identity: each track is presented as a chapter, fed by archives, testimonies or real battles, giving their albums the feel of sonic war journals. Their debut record Eschatology of War (2015) established this immersive narrative format, deepened on The Blind Leading the Blind (2018), inspired by the centenary of the armistice. With Where Fear and Weapons Meet (2021), 1914 pushes the balance further between raw violence, sinister atmospheres and solemn doom passages. Their tense, cinematic music depicts the madness and relentless machinery of conflict, while their live shows employ retro military imagery, reinforcing the historical and tragic dimension of the project.
