Info
The Orb and Ozric Tentacles share the stage on 12 November 2026 at Boiler Shop, Newcastle upon Tyne. Two UK cult institutions meet for an evening where electronic reveries and psychedelic instrumentals cross paths, each project bringing decades of craft and a distinct way of stretching sound in real time.
Formed in late-80s London around Alex Paterson, The Orb shaped ambient house with slow-motion rhythms, spacious textures and playful sample collages, often leaning into dub and reggae inflections. On stage, the project translates that studio language into long-form pieces that morph and flow, with live processing and visuals extending the meditative edge heard on albums like The Orb’s Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld and U.F.Orb, through to later collaborations with David Gilmour and Lee “Scratch” Perry.
Born out of the Stonehenge free festival scene, Ozric Tentacles build mostly instrumental voyages that blend psychedelic and space rock with progressive turns, jazz fusion accents, ambient passages and dub-friendly grooves. Guided by guitarist-composer Ed Wynne, the group’s sound balances intricate keyboards, fluid guitar lines and supple rhythms, drawing from a catalogue that runs from Erpland and Jurassic Shift to Lotus Unfolding. Live, they favour evolving structures and cosmic timbres that invite immersion without losing momentum.
