Ozric Tentacles

Born in Somerset in 1983 in the wake of the Stonehenge Free Festival, Ozric Tentacles has developed since its beginnings an essentially instrumental music that blends psychedelic rock, space rock, progressive rock, jazz fusion, ambient, dub and touches of world music. Initially distributed via a series of self-released cassettes in the 1980s, the band went on to build a broader discography with Pungent Effulgent (1989), Erpland (1990), Strangeitude (1991), Jurassic Shift (1993) and Arborescence (1994), and continued over time with The Hidden Step (2000), Technicians of the Sacred (2015), Space for the Earth (2020) and Lotus Unfolding (2023). Ozric Tentacles’ sound rests on sinuous guitars, prominent keyboards, rhythms that are often supple or intricate, and a marked taste for cosmic atmospheres, dub grooves and progressive constructions. The lineup has changed considerably over the decades, but guitarist and composer Ed Wynne remains its fixed point. Ozric Tentacles’ story also intersects with side projects such as Eat Static and Nodens Ictus, highlighting the lasting role of electronic textures in the band’s identity, both in the studio and on British rock and festival stages.
